The leagues and Football Club

In 1967 two new clubs were added to the elite NSW Rugby League, Cronulla-Sutherland being one of them and the Cronulla Sharks were born.

Originally with a home base at Sutherland Oval the Cronulla Sharks moved permanently to the then Endeavour Field at Woolooware in mid-1968 and in doing so became the only club in Sydney to own our own ground. With our move to Woolooware came a relocation of the Cronulla Sharks Leagues Club, which began operations in Caringbah overlooking the Cronulla train line and in close proximity to the railway station.

Some nine years later construction on the Cronulla Sharks Leagues Club on its current Captain Cook Drive site was complete with the then-premier of NSW Neville Wran officially opening the doors on April 30th, 1977.

Since that time results on the field have gone through a number of high and lows. For almost five decades they tried to land an elusive title, with the Sharks finally climbing their ‘Everest’ in winning the NRL Premiership in 2016.Three times previously they contested First Grade Grand Finals and on numerous other occasions threatened a premiership breakthrough, before the memorable 2016 season and exciting victory over the Melbourne Storm.

Prior to that, the Sharks Amco Cup triumph in 1979 stood tall as a significant achievement during what was a successful era at the club.

Cronulla Sharks Leagues Club has always been accepted as the home of the Cronulla Sharks, not to mention the administrative base of the football club, it is also home to the King Wan Restaurant, The Bay Bistro and the Bay Café.

Now with construction well on its way for the residential precinct and the starting of the retail precinct to commence this year, the Cronulla Sharks Leagues Club will undergo development to include a new outdoor terrace area overlooking the stadium and Woolooware Bay. Members will be able to enjoy waterfront views as well as a vibrant new dining and entertainment area.

The proposed development will also bring new life to Woolooware Bay, and give us the opportunity to contribute to the community we love by providing facilities, services and jobs to the shire precinct. A shopping centre, residential apartments, dining and entertainment venues are some of the newest attractions included in the development.

We are set to move into a bright and prosperous future!
